Arsenal have received a major boost in their potential bid for Wolves star Ruben Neves.
The Gunners have been tipped to switch attention to Neves having come up short in the race to land Norwich City star Emi Buendia, with Aston Villa now looking certain to wrap up a deal for the Argentine.
Arsenal had tracked Buendia for some time heading into this summer, but they were outdone by a swift Aston Villa move, which saw the deal all-but wrapped up very quickly.
The deal is now said to be on its way to completion with only a medical to complete, and that means the Gunners' search for new recruitments goes on.
But while the search for a new winger may indeed go on, the Gunners are in need of a new midfielder, particularly with Martin Odegaard looking set to return to Real Madrid.
Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is said to want Odegaard back ahead of next season, and that could just leave Mikel Arteta short in that position.
And that's where Wolves star Neves comes in, the Portugal international who has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, though he is more defensive than his Norwegian counterpart.
Nevertheless, reports claim the transfer could be a goer with Wolves 'braced' for a bid for the £34million-rated midfielder, and the Daily Mail report Neves "is aware of Arsenal's interest and indicated his willingness to join the north Londoners to teammates."
That could be a real boost to Arsenal if they are indeed in for Neves ahead of next season, though the Gunners will have the chance to scout the 24-year-old further this summer.
Neves, who has made 40 appearances for the Midlands club across all competitions this season, is part of the Portugal squad for Euro 2020.
Fernando Santos' men won Euro 2016, and Neves linked up with the nation as they won the UEFA Nations League in 2019.
