Police have declared a “critical incident” at a high school in the US after a student opened fire inside the building.
The unidentified suspect brought the weapon to Waukesha South High School in Wisconsin before reportedly shooting at guard inside the school, according to local reports.
A young man was carried out on a stretcher at around 10.30am local time (4.30pm UK time) after emergency services rushed to the scene.
Waukesha Police Department confirmed that the suspect had been taken into custody.
The force wrote in a Twitter statement: “There has been a critical incident at Waukesha South High school.
"The building is safe and secure. The suspect is in custody.
“This is an isolated incident. We are not seeking anybody else we have no other persons of interest.
“We are in the investigative stage right now as the scene is stabilised.”
It is not yet known if anyone suffered serious injuries.

There have been more than 46 shootings at schools in the US so far this year - an average of almost one a week - according to broadcaster CNN.
