Wisconsin and Notre Dame won’t play at Lambeau Field in 2020

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez confirmed Thursday that his school won’t play Notre Dame at Lambeau Field this fall.

The hyped matchup between two of the top programs in college football has been canceled in 2020 as the Big Ten conference begins adjusting schedules in response to the on-going coronavirus pandemic. As Alvarez confirmed in a press release, the Big Ten won’t play any non-conference games in 2020 and will instead focus on conference games.

“What we do know is we will not play any non-conference this season, including the highly anticipated game against Notre Dame at Lambeau Field. We all share in the disappointment about that and are exploring options to reschedule those games,” Alvarez wrote Thursday. “We look forward to playing Notre Dame in 2021 at Soldier Field in Chicago and both programs are committed to rescheduling the game at Lambeau.”

The game was scheduled for Oct. 3 at Lambeau Field.

The Green Bay Packers are scheduled to play the Atlanta Falcons at Lambeau Field on Monday, Oct. 5.

The Badgers will be slated to play nine conference games, including a season-opening game against Indiana on Sept. 4 at Camp Randall Stadium.

Back in June, Packers team president Mark Murphy wrote that the final decision on playing the game would be based on the “status of the virus” and the effectiveness of the country’s “efforts at slowing the spread.”
