Wirral town to get its Post Office back with longer opening hours

New Ferry will have a Post Office once again, after the previous operator shut up shop in March, blaming falling revenues and maintenance costs.

The new Post Office will open at 39 New Chester Road, right next to the old branch which operated at number 41 - and will be open for longer than the town’s former Post Office. Last September, Vishal Jain, who ran the old Post Office on New Chester Road said falling revenues mean he could not afford to keep it open.

Mr Jain said there were several reasons for this, including trade being affected by the explosion which rocked the town almost five years ago and issues with maintenance costs. Given these problems, his Post Office closed on March 23.

Almost a month after this date, on Friday, April 22, at 1pm, the new Post Office will restore this vital service to New Ferry. It will continue to operate as a ‘main style’ Post Office branch with two Post Office counters and the same range of products and services as the previous one.

The new opening hours for New Ferry Post Office will be 9am-5.30pm from Monday to Friday and 9am until 12.30pm on Saturdays. The Post Office will be closed on Sundays.

Karl Haddon, from the Post Office, said: “We are delighted to soon be restoring Post Office services to New Ferry as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. This full-time Post Office will be convenient for customers to visit.”

The previous retailer at 39 New Chester Road, Becky’s Sewing Boutique, has moved to a new location.
