Over six million people are currently under winter weather alerts as parts of the northeast brace for significant snowfall. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation as a powerful winter storm sweeps through the region.

The storm is expected to bring up to a foot of snow to areas in upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Satellite and radar images show snowfall intensifying in these regions, with lightning strikes detected offshore indicating the storm's strength.

Warnings have been issued for 7 to 14 inches of snow in upstate New York, with some areas in Maine potentially receiving a total of a foot of snow. In addition to heavy snowfall, the storm is accompanied by strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour from Maine down to the Carolinas.

As the storm progresses, colder air will move in behind it, leading to potential lake-effect snow across Lakes Erie and Ontario. Gusty winds will persist, with gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour expected today and tomorrow.

Residents in Albany are advised to prepare for significant snow accumulation, with totals reaching up to a foot in some areas, necessitating snow removal efforts. Meanwhile, warmer air in the Plains region will increase fire danger in Texas later this week.
