Christmas is here and we’re delighted to announce the winner of our festive lights competition.
Margo and Jim Hardie of George Street in Armadale have been chosen thanks to their home made plywood Christmas decorations which they said they created to cheer up children on their way to school.
And taking pride of place is their old Christmas tree that they bought the first Christmas they were married, in 1973, from Emma Paterson Florist Bathgate.
The couple have won a £50 gift card courtesy of The Centre Livingston.
We teamed up with The Centre to spread some cheer with our competition to find the best festive lights.
We asked readers to send in pictures of their decorated houses so we can celebrate the most colourful and brightest homes - and we weren’t disappointed.
Margo said she and her husband are delighted to be named winners.
She said: “We decided to make an extra effort this year as it’s been challenging in so many ways for everyone.
“We have visited New York a few times and loved our visits to Dyker Heights where the homes are like the Griswalds’ home on steroids.
“Initially I just wanted two nutcracker soldiers for the porch pillars, but once we started we kept going. We had plywood and paint left over from Armadale Gala Day projects.
“Jim cut out the ply and we both got cracking with the paint and varnish.
“Our house is on a busy school route and after seeing them enjoy our Halloween decor we thought it would have a good idea to do Christmas too.
“We are so happy to see the excited smiles and laughter from the kids - and adults - it’s made the days spent in the garage so worthwhile and the icing on the Christmas cake was to win the Christmas lights prize.
“We will use the voucher to buy a Swarovski snowflake decoration for our tree.”
