Winger leaves Motherwell after Fir Park exit 'mutually agreed'

Motherwell have announced the departure of winger Steven Lawless.

The 30-year-old returned to the club he started his career with at the beginning of this year from Burton Albion but has played just 25 minutes of Premiership football this season.

His only goal came in the summer's League Cup victory over Queen's Park. Lawless is a product of the Fir Park youth academy and has made 18 appearances overall for the Steelmen.

Lawless' contract wasn't due to expire until the end of the season but a decision has been made to grant his Fir Park departure now.

Motherwell's statement reads: "Steven Lawless has left Motherwell, after the club and the player mutually agreed to end his current contract.

"The 30-year-old returned to the club in January of this year from English League One side Burton Albion, with a deal to the end of the current campaign.

"We would like to thank Steven for his two spells at Fir Park and wish him every success in his future career."

Graham Alexander's side return to Premiership action this Saturday against Celtic.
