Sania Mirza and Bethanie Mattek-Sands bowed out in the second round of the women's doubles at Wimbledon on Saturday.
The Indo-American pairing lost to the Russian combination of Elena Vesnina and Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets 4-6, 3-6.
Sania and Mattek-Sands, not at their best with their serves or returns on the day, converted just one of six breakpoint opportunities. That was on Vesnina's serve, early in the second set, when trailing 0-2.
Sania and Mattek-Sands managed to win only 56 percent of points on their first serve which hurt them against the Russians, a balanced combination of youth and experience.
Kudermetova is 24 and ranked 32 in singles, while Vesnina is 34 and the mother of three-year-old Elizabeth.
Mattek-Sands, the oldest of the four players on court at 36, was not her sharpest at the net, while the Indian struck big from the back of the court, couldn't do the required damage at the net.
