Wimbledon 2025 LIVE!
Sonay Kartal sailed through in straight sets against Diane Parry to progress into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time.
Kartal, the British No3, opened proceedings on Court No1 against the tricky French qualifier, who had stuned both Petra Martic and then 12th seed Diana Shnaider en route to her meeting with Kartal, but the Briton, after a shaky start, won through 6-4 6-2.
Parry was in the ascendancy in the early exchanges, earning an initial break to go up 4-1, but Kartal rallied hard to get her rhythm back, and roared back to take the opening set and dampen Parry’s determination. Her French opponent would begin to crumble thereafter, with the mistakes swinging the Frenchwoman’s way and the pendulum in the other, as Kartal cruised to a more comfortable second set, where she sets up a fourth-round encounter against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

GAME, SET AND MATCH KARTAL -- Parry 4-6, 2-6 Kartal
14:30 , Dom SmithA big cheer for Kartal, and no wonder. The crowd here on Court No1 hope she will serve herself into the round of 16 here.
She shanks wide on the first point but is gifted a point back when Parry then nets.
Excellent winner from Kartal for 30-15. And then a stonking ace! She has two match points!!!
SHE’S DONE IT! She’s into the fourth round for the very first time!
Parry 4-6, 2-5 Kartal
14:27 , Dom SmithParry moves to the net to good effect, slamming the ball down and forcing Kartal to net.
That’s for 30-15 Parry on her own serve, and it’s 40-15 when Kartal’s backhand slice is into the tramlines.
Parry holds again, but Kartal will serve for the match next!
Parry 4-6, 1-5 Kartal
14:23 , Dom SmithKartal with a winner for 15-0.
Parry goes long for 30-0.
But Parry gets herself back to 30-30 and so Kartal is given a rousing cheer from the crowd who want to help her through.
She hits a fine winner down the line on her backhand for 40-30... and then an even better one to hold serve. She’s one game away from the fourth round!
Parry 4-6, 1-4 Kartal
14:20 , Dom SmithThat is MUCH more like it from Parry, who serves powerfully for the first time in a long time and causes Kartal problems. The Brit can only watch as Parry fires a crosscourt winner past her for game.
Parry 4-6, 0-4 Kartal
14:17 , Dom SmithParry is struggling to get her forehands over the net right now, owing, I’m sure, to Kartal’s hard hitting. It’s 30-0 Kartal when she serves at Parry and the Frenchwoman can’t return in. 40-0.
Net again.
Game.
Parry 4-6, 0-3 Kartal
14:14 , Dom SmithAn outstanding point from Kartal gets her back to 15-15 on Parry’s serve, big-hitting and then a nonchalant putaway on the backhand volley.
Parry can only pass into the net, and soon it’s 15-30 and Kartal is in the hunt for a double break.
Even more so when she bullets the ball back at Parry and prompts her opponent to net once more. 15-40. Two break points.
And the world No51 gets it! Wow. What a performance this is turning into from Sonay Kartal.
Parry 4-6, 0-2 Kartal
14:10 , Dom SmithIt’s all a little too routine for Kartal right now. After such a strong start to the match, Parry has dropped off and hits beyond the baseline for 40-0 Kartal.
The British No3 then nets on approach, but she wins the next point on a long rally, striking onto the line and prompting a gasp from the crowd who were impressed by that.
Parry 4-6, 0-1 Kartal
14:06 , Dom SmithParry is struggling serving directly into the sun and goes 15-40 down as he British opponent senses a chance to break immediately in the second set.
But Parry then has the last laugh on an exceptional rally. However, Parry goes long on the next rally and is broken. Kartal is really in the mood here!
Quick break
14:00 , Dom SmithDiane Parry has just headed off for a loo break after losing that first set, presumably to offer herself some harsh words of reflection in the mirror. Back underway shortly.
GAME AND FIRST SET KARTAL -- Parry 4-6 Kartal
13:57 , Dom SmithAn unreturned serve gets Kartal going in a game she knows will give her the first set if she can hold.
Let’s do this again, she decides, hitting another serve winner for 30-0. The third point is a rally where Parry forehands long, bringing up 40-0 and three set points.
She takes it with an unreturned second serve. Nerves of steel!
Parry 4-5 Kartal
13:54 , Dom SmithKartal lets a 15-30 lead slip on Parry’s serve as she hits crosscourt into the trams, but the game moves into deuce as Parry hits another double fault.
And a fierce forehand from Parry lands JUST out, meaning Kartal has a break point here.
The Frenchwoman nets and it’s now Kartal who is a break up. How fast things can change, ey!
Parry 4-4 Kartal
13:48 , Dom SmithKartal’s superb drop shot prompts Parry to slice long and makes it 30-15 for Kartal, two points away from levelling the first set at 4-4.
An unreturned serve will do nicely, but Parry hits back. Then she goes long, though, and it is indeed four games apiece.
Parry 4-3 Kartal
13:44 , Dom SmithKartal spots her chance to break back as the ball gets caught under Parry’s racquet on a seemingly simple return and brings up 0-30. And then WOW... a fantastic winner fired past Parry makes it 0-40 to Kartal and three break points arrive.
Two misses see the first two break points go awry, and then after a marathon rally Kartal hits the net and the third is gone too. Deuce. Tense stuff.
How’s your luck... Parry double-faults, and Kartal has another pop at breaking.
PARRY NETS. Kartal has broken back!
Parry 4-2 Kartal
13:37 , Dom SmithBig cheer for Kartal as she comes out to serve, with the crowd fully aware that if she’s broken again then Parry will be serving for a 6-1 first set next...
Kartal moves 30-0 up when Parry nets with the first point and goes long on the second.
An unreturned serve follows for 40-15, and a line ace will give Kartal plenty of confidence. She holds firm.
Parry 4-1 Kartal
13:33 , Dom SmithParry is 30-15 up but then nets mid-rally to make it 30-30, only for Kartal to do the same. Parry then takes the game by serving fiercely and following it up to the net, calmly stroking a winner past Kartal whose looping return of serve wasn’t hit with enough conviction really.
Parry 3-1 Kartal
13:31 , Dom SmithKartal is off the mark in this first set, holding to 30 and gaining a loud applause from the crowd, geeing her on here.
Parry 3-0 Kartal
13:24 , Dom SmithParry is playing some fine stuff right now and is 40-15 up on serve when Kartal shanks a return and it lands in the tramlines.
Double fault, rather humorously prompting a pro-Kartal clap from some spectators of a British persuasion.
And then a loud clap for both players as Parry wins a long rally with a high volley winner but both players did well there. It’s 3-0 as she holds again.
Parry 2-0 Kartal
13:19 , Dom SmithA hint of trouble for Kartal is swiftly cleared away as she slams down two aces to go from 15-30 down to 40-30 ahead.
And then a really poor second serve lands MILES out and it’s deuce.
Kartal wastes one advantage by firing beyond the baseline, and Parry earns a break point with a deft drop shot at the net. It’s a lovely touch, with Kartal nowhere near it.
And with a crosscourt winner, Parry breaks!
Parry 1-0 Kartal
13:13 , Dom SmithKartal is pushing for a break of serve right from the off here, which is a good sign, and smashes a net volley away for 15-30 on the Parry serve.
Excellent putaway from Kartal, crosscourt, to force Parry to deuce, and when Parry nets she has a break point.
But it’s saved brilliantly by Parry, and the Frenchwoman moves advantage up with a strong serve before holding.
Underway
13:07 , Dom SmithHere we go then. The match begins and Parry serves.

12:31 , Dom SmithRound 1: Beat Petra Martic 4-6, 6-3, 6-2
Round 2: Beat Diana Shnaider (12) 6-4, 6-1
Kartal route to third round
12:15 , Dom SmithRound 1: Beat Jelena Ostapenko (20) - 7-5, 2-6, 6-2
Round 2: Beat Viktoriya Tomova - 6-2, 6-2
Standard Sport prediction
12:13 , Dom SmithKartal has been in fine form at this Championships, the British No3 having stunned the 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko before easily getting past Viktoriya Tomova in the second round.
Parry has been producing scalps herself, knocking out Petra Martic and then the 12th seed Diana Shnaider in the last round. She is, though, ranked much lower than Kartal and the Briton must just get it done today, I reckon.
Standard Sport prediction: Kartal to win, in three sets
Head to head (H2H) record
12:02 , Dom SmithThis will be the very first meeting between Kartal and Parry, who have neither faced either other before.

We’re coming to you live from Court No1 as Kartal seeks to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon — and, indeed, a Grand Slam — for the very first time.
The 23-year-old British No3 faces a qualifier this afternoon, in the form of French competitor Diane Parry, who is more experienced at Majors than Kartal but has also never reached the fourth round of one.
Play gets underway at 1pm here on Court No1, who has only ever played on a show court once before — the same court, at the same stage last year against Coco Gauff.
We’ll have all the build-up to the match, as well as game by game updates from live inside the venue.
