William Storey has taken to social media to offer his sympathy to sacked Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson.
The Black Cats parted company with Parkinson on Sunday following Friday night's 1-1 draw with Fleetwood Town.
The Rich Energy founder is keen on buying Sunderland from Stewart Donald, and has continued to claim he is close to a deal, despite the club reported to be close to confirming a takeover involving Juan Sartori and Kyril Lous-Dreyfus.
Storey has taken a keen interest in Sunderland's fortunes in recent months, and again tweeted today following Parkinson's departure, pointing out the difficult job Parkinson had to do with limited resources.
"I know Phil Parkinson was unpopular with lots of fans but any manager can only work with the resources at his disposal," he tweeted.
"Selling academy players & a tiny budget didn't make it easy for him! He is a decent person. Best of luck Phil."
Storey had earlier revealed he had submitted a second bid to purchase the Black Cats on November 19.
Sunderland are refusing to comment on the reports claiming the Louis-Dreyfus' takeover has reached the stage where it is being scrutinised by the EFL.
