William Saliba makes Nicolas Pepe update to get Arsenal fans excited

Nicolas Pepe is close to becoming an Arsenal fan and members of the first team dressing room at London Colney have not been shy over their interest in the deal.

Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are three senior players who have taken to social media to like and share images of the Ivorian in the colours of the Gunners.

The Lille winger would become the fourth signing of the summer for Unai Emery's side following the capture of Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba and the arrival of Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid for the season.

Despite being loaned directly back to Saint-Etienne for one more year before becoming a fully-fledged member of the Arsenal squad, Saliba has been following developments over Pepe closely too.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted that the Frenchman defender had started following the 24-year-old on Instagram, an update that was quickly lapped up as another positive omen over the forward's imminent move.

Pepe has been tipped to upgrade the Arsenal right wing after scoring 22 goals and creating 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season.

While nine of his goals came from the penalty spot, his record of 13 goals from open play is not to be sniffed at, and with the introduction of video assisted referees (VAR) to the Premier League this season, his impact from the spot is likely to be a major boost to Arsenal too.

The Gunners are expected to confirm a deal for the wide player in time for him to be prepared to take on Newcastle United on the opening weekend of the season.

Emery is tasked with bringing Champions League football back to the Emirates Stadium in 2020 having gone close last season by finishing fifth in the Premier League and losing to Chelsea in the Europa League final.

Improvements on either of those two finishing positions will take the Gunners back into Europe's most elite club competition for the 2020/21 season.
