Prince William and Prince Harry's reunion outside Windsor Castle yesterday was orchestrated by the King, according to reports. William and Kate joined Harry and Megan to meet with mourners at the castle gates and look at tributes left for Queen Elizabeth II following her death on Thursday.
The Daily Mail reports that the brothers were "ordered" by their father King Charles III to put their differences aside as they prepare for the Queen’s funeral. The service will take place on Monday, September 19, with the new King confirming that the day will be bank holiday.
William and Harry had been due to greet well-wishers at roughly 4.30pm, according to Birmingham Live. However, they eventually emerged, with both dressed in black suits, at 5.15pm, after 45 minutes of tense negotiations.
Meghan's friend Omid Scobie, later said on Twitter that the invitation was made at the "11th hour". Talking about the olive branch extended to the Sussexes's: "It is, without a doubt, a significant moment in the history of the relationship between the two brothers."
According to The Times, the camps required extended negotiations beforehand which delayed their arrival by 45 minutes. A senior Palace source said: "The Prince of Wales invited the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to join him and the Princess of Wales earlier.
"The Prince of Wales thought it was an important show of unity for the Queen at an incredibly difficult time for the family."
