Will trick or treating be allowed for Halloween this year?

Halloween is just a few weeks away but the ACT government says it is too early to say yet if children will be allowed to go trick or treating in their neighbourhoods.

Halloween is October 31, by which time some children would have started back at school, the rest due back on November 1.

October 29 will also see the start of many other activities being permitted in the ACT including up to 30 people being allowed to gather outside and organised sport.

From October 29, face masks will also only be required indoors.

An ACT government spokesperson said a decision would be made later.

"It is too early to say if trick or treating will be permitted on 31 October. The ACT government will advise the community about this closer to the time," they said.
