Will there be a white Christmas in 2019? This is the forecast for Greater Manchester over the next five days

Anybody placing bets on a white Christmas in 2019 will be disappointed.

Christmas is just five days away, which means forecasters can accurately predict whether there will be snowfall on December 25.

And according to the Met Office snow on Christmas Day in Greater Manchester is not looking likely.

However, it might be a bit frosty, dry and crisp across the region.

In the run up to the big day conditions across Greater Manchester are going to be unsettled.

Saturday will be mainly cloudy throughout the morning, with scattered showers which may turn heavy in some places.

By the afternoon the rain will start to clear and there will be sunny spells.

Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 9C.

On Sunday skies will be overcast, with some showers around by night time.

Temperatures will dip to around 7C.

At the start of next week the weather will continue to be unsettled, with prolonged rain overnight into Christmas Eve.

There may be some fine conditions during the day.

By Christmas day the weather may become drier and quieter, with an increased risk of frost and patchy fog.

Temperatures will be chilly, with highs of 7C.

Bonnie Diamond, Meteorologist for the Met Office, said: "As we head into Christmas week temperatures start to turn colder.

"The last couple of days have been mild, but as we go from Sunday onwards there will be maximum temperatures of 8C.

"Temperatures overnight will be in the low single figures. At the moment it looks to be fairly dry and bright across Manchester.

"On Christmas Day it will be a generally dry day with sunny spells. "

Saturday, December 21

Mainly cloudy with scattered showers, sometimes heavy in places. They will clear by the afternoon with sunny spells.

Maximum temperature 9C.

Sunday, December 22

Overcast with a few showers.

Maximum temperature 7C.

Monday, December 23

Bright, dry, but colder.

Maximum temperature 8C.

Christmas Eve

Prolonged rain into the morning, but some potential fine conditions during the day.

Maximum temperature 6C.

Christmas Day

Conditions will become more settled, with the chance of some frost and fog.

Maximum temperature 7C.
