The Washington Redskins secondary was a mixed bag in 2018.
Injuries were suffered throughout the secondary, and two veteran players — Josh Norman and D.J. Swearinger — were habitually in the media for the wrong reasons.
Now headed into 2019, the crew is back and healthy, while veteran safety Landon Collins has flown in from New York hoping to help Washington ball-hawk their way to a respectable season. But will they take the leap that everyone is expecting?
It will be a big bonus to have CB Quinton Dunbar back in the lineup, as he missed nine games due to injury last season which forced two rookies to take his place. Though safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix ended his short stay in Washington by leaving for Chicago this past offseason, the addition of Collins will surely shore up any holes in the secondary.
The team also added veteran Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who can be a solid starter alongside Norman if health is to be of no concern.
Those solid pieces, with the upside of both Fabian Moreau and rookie Jimmy Moreland have coaches buzzing about the possibilities that this defense can bring.
If spring camp is any indication of what’s to come, the Redskins’ secondary can take a major step forward this season.
