Will the latest ceasefire bring peace to Nagorno-Karabakh?

Will the latest ceasefire bring peace to Nagorno-Karabakh?

One of the world’s longest-running conflicts appears to be over, at least for now.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to a Russian-mediated ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The disputed region is recognised as part of Azerbaijan, but controlled by ethnic Armenians.

While the Azeris call the deal a victory, Armenians say it is a national humiliation and some are demanding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation.

Can the agreement bring peace after decades of mistrust?

Presenter: Mohammed Jamjoom

Guests:

Nigar Arpadarai – Member of parliament in Azerbaijan

Matthew Bryza – Former US ambassador to Azerbaijan

Laurence Broers – Associate fellow at the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House

Note: Armenian government representatives declined Inside Story’s requests to appear on the panel.
