Will Grigg to Chesterfield: Northern Ireland's forgotten striker tipped to be success in National League

Northern Ireland's forgotten man Will Grigg has joined Chesterfield from League Two side MK Dons for an undisclosed fee.

The former Wigan Athletic and Sunderland striker has agreed a three-year deal with the National League side.

Grigg follows the arrival of midfielder Tom Naylor from Wigan, with Chesterfield manager Paul Cook plotting a promotion challenge after missing out in the play-off final to Notts County last season.

Grigg scored seven goals in 48 appearances for MK Dons last season, in what was his second spell with the club.

The striker - who went viral with the catchy tune 'Will Grigg's on fire' back in 2016 - has won 13 caps for Northern Ireland, scoring two goals at international level.

The 31-year-old was part of Michael O'Neill's Euro 2016 squad but never made an appearance during the finals in France.

He has only featured five times since then, with his last cap coming against Austria in a UEFA Nations League game back in October, 2018.

Since the Euros Grigg has played for clubs including Wigan, Sunderland, MK Dons (twice) and Rotherham.

He scored over 20 goals in three separate campaigns in League One, earning a £3million move to the Black Cats in League One in 2019.

Now he is being tipped to be a success at Chesterfield, given the experience he has playing at a higher level.

The striker worked under Cook at Wigan, and it is hoped he can fire in the goals to help Chesterfield get promotion this season.
