March 13--Harry Caray impersonator Will Ferrell on Thursday attempted to play every position in five spring training games. Let's review.
Game 1. Will Ferrell first played shortstop for the Athletics in the top of the first, then moved to second base for the Mariners in the top of the second. "I'm a five-tool guy," he explained. No balls were hit to him.
Game 2. After his police-escort commute, he played center for the Angels, fielding a ball successfully. In the fourth, he batted for the Cubs, striking out on three pitches. Then he took over for Mike Olt at first, but was pulled after one out. He threw his mitt in mock disgust and hit the road.
Game 3. Passing the halfway point on his old school quest, Ferrell manned third for the Reds and then left for the D-backs. Arizona fans gave him a standing O when he appeared in a D-backs uniform, then they booed him when he emerged in Cincy red.
Game 4. Running late, Ferrell's copter landed in center field in the ninth inning, delaying the game but amusing the crowd. He batted as DH for the White Sox, fanning weakly. He then took over as the Giants catcher -- immediately calling for an intentional walk.
Game 5. Ferrell completed his day by taking the mound for the Dodgers in the bottom of the seventh. Facing Rico Noel, he threw one pitch -- clocked at 56 mph -- cleanly fielded a bunt and threw Noel out. He then played right for the Padres in the ninth. "I can't believe I'm going to end my career with the Padres," he said, as the long day's journey in the desert ended.
