Queensland's Jack Wildermuth struck early to have Western Australia on the back foot at 2-74 at lunch on the first day of their Sheffield Shield clash at The Gabba.
Bulls skipper Usman Khawaja sent the visitors in to bat after winning the toss on Saturday morning, and the decision looked a shrewd one when Wildermuth took two wickets inside the first 10 overs.
Cameron Bancroft was the first to go, caught behind in the fourth over for one run.
The visitors were reeling at 2-16 when Wildermuth removed Sam Whiteman for 13, caught by Marnus Labuschagne at second slip.
But Shaun March (23) and Cameron Green (28) have combined for a 58-run partnership to steady the ship.
Wildermuth has figures of 2-13 from seven overs, with three maidens.
Queensland entered the clash on top of the competition table with three wins and a loss from their four games, while WA sit in third place with a win and four draws from five matches.
