Wicklow firefighters lay wreath in memory of firefighters Brian Murray and Mark O'Shaughnessy

Wicklow firefighters gathered today to remember two fallen colleagues with a poignant wreath-laying ceremony.

Crews from Greystones and Bray, and other Wicklow stations as well as trainees, paid tribute to brave Sub Station Officer Brian Murray, 46, and 26-year-old firefighter Mark O'Shaughnessy.

The men tragically lost their lives 13 years ago in a huge blaze at a a disused ink factory at Adelaide Villas in Bray on September 26, 2007.

Today, 30 firefighters paraded outside Bray Fire Station where the Irish flag hung at half-mast.

Two firemen laid down floral wreaths on plinths as they remembered their late colleagues in silence.

Wicklow Fire Service tweeted: "Firefighters from around the country training in Bray, joined fire crews from Bray, Greystones and other Wicklow stations at a ceremony to mark the 13th anniversary of the passing of Sub Officer Brian Murray and firefighter Mark O’Shaughnessy - Ar Dheis De go raibh n-anamacha."

Station Officer from Greystones Fire Station, Ciaran Hayden, told The Irish Daily Mirror that they hold a parade and wreath-laying ceremony every year in memory of both men.

He also recalled memories of Brian Murray who he had trained with.

"He was a real fireman's fireman if you know what I mean. He absolutely loved every part of of his job."

Mr Hayden also revealed Brian had built up friendships with firefighters abroad and had been involved in fundraisers for firefighters affected by 9/11.

The "community-minded" dad had even travelled over several times to the Bronx in New York to meet a crew called Rescue 1 who he became friends with.
