Why VAR will not be in use during Partick Thistle vs Celtic this weekend

VAR will not be in use for Celtic's Premier Sports Cup quarter-final tie against Partick Thistle on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers' men travel to Firhill as they look to make it two wins on the bounce after returning to action after the international break with a 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock at the weekend.

Kelechi Iheanacho's late penalty sent the Bhoys top of the Scottish Premiership, ahead of Heart of Midlothian on goal difference and nine points clear of Rangers.

Attention this weekend turns to the Premier Sports Cup, a trophy Celtic won last season by beating their arch-rivals on penalties in the final.

They made their way into the last eight of this year's version of the competition by beating Falkirk 4-1 last month.

As Celtic take to the field for their quarter-final, however, VAR will not be in use.

Why is there no VAR for Partick Thistle vs Celtic this weekend?

Due to Scottish Championship sides not having VAR, the technology will not be in use for this weekend's quarter-final.

Kevin Clancy will be the referee, with Ross Macleod and David Dunne running the lines.

Ex-Celtic right-back Mark Wilson is in charge of Partick Thistle, who boast T'soanelo Letsosa, also formerly of the Bhoys, in their ranks.

Kick-off on Sunday is at 3:30pm, with the match live on Premier Sports 1.
