Why Todd Gurley’s post-season touches were way down

With the Los Angeles Rams’ offense struggling in the NFC Championship game and Super Bowl, why was the greatest running back on the planet limited in his carries? Georgia great Todd Gurley’s decrease in production was a bit bewildering and head coach Sean McVay never came up with a plausible answer.

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe and Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Gurley has arthritis in his left knee — the same knee he had surgery to repair a torn ACL he suffered during his junior year at UGA.

Fortunately, the two-time All-Pro will not require surgery. Rest and therapy will have Gurley back on the field in 2019. The Rams have a four-year, $60 million investment investment in the North Carolina native, who led the league with 17 touchdowns last season. The team will be closely monitoring his progress during the offseason and will most likely have him on a snap count during the upcoming season.
