Why Shola Shoretire and Amad are in Manchester United squad vs Newcastle

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained why Shola Shoretire and Amad are in the squad to face Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Amad could make his league debut after coming off the bench for his debut in the Europa League win against Real Sociedad on Thursday.

Shoretire was included in a first-team matchday squad for the first time in the aforementioned clash but didn't make it onto the pitch in Turin.

On the inclusion of Shoretire and Amad against Newcastle, Solskjaer told BT Sport: “Yeah, we’ve cut the squad a little bit in the transfer window, it’s a tight group and they get a chance, that’s what we do at this club. Hopefully we can give them experience that will stand us in good stead later."

Amad, who joined United for an initial £18million fee from Atalanta in the winter transfer window, is yet to make his domestic debut but injuries to Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani could enable the winger to figure against Newcastle.

Solskjaer also touched pre-game on his decision to start Daniel James, with the winger having impressed against Sociedad.

“I thought his performance (against Real Sociedad) was excellent, he gave us energy in the pressing, gives us runs in behind and keeps the width for us. We felt he deserved another start," Solskjaer told MUTV.
