Why Man Utd's new signing Daniel James will be a 'nightmare' for Premier League defenders

Regan Poole is under no illusions that Daniel James will cope well at Manchester United following his big money move from Swansea City.

The pair played together for Wales' Under-21s, although such has been James' meteoric rise, the winger has forced his way into Ryan Giggs' first team, scoring a memorable winner on his competitive international debut against Slovakia in March.

Giggs played a key part in James' switch to Old Trafford earlier this summer, and the wideman has been impressing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in training already.

And Poole - who was released by United this summer - admits James' speed makes him a "nightmare" for opposing defenders.

"When I was in the same team as Dan, I got on really well with him. Hopefully he can kick on and do Wales proud at the club," Poole told the Manchester Evening News.

"He's a great player: very quick down the wing and I'm sure he will do well.

"Dan's done really well in the Championship and that's why he got his move to Man United. I'm sure he'll cope with it just fine.

"Everyone knows the speed he has. I bet he's a nightmare to defend against; I'm a centre-half so fortunately I never really had to mark him. But you can see what he did for Swansea — hopefully he can carry that into the Premier League."

Poole joined the Red Devils from Newport County but recently signed for MK Dons after being let go by Solskjaer's side.
