Why Jared Leto and Doja Cat both dressed as cats at the 2023 Met Gala

The Met Gala is often the place for wild fashion choices, but Jared Leto and Doja Cat went above and beyond to pay homage to the most chic cat of all: Choupette.

The theme for the 2023 Met Gala is based off of the late Karl Lagerfeld, the famous — yet problematic — fashion figure. One of Langerfeld’s biggest muses was his cat, Choupette, who lived the most luxurious life a feline could ask for. Choupette, an 11-year-old tortie Birman, is one of the most famous cats in the world and has been pampered like royalty befitting a cat of her stature. She is even a successful model and was featured in many of Lagerfeld’s collections.

Hilariously, Choupette declined an invitation to this year’s Met Gala to be “cozy at home” — a mood, if I’m being honest — but it seems Leto and Doja Cat kept her spirit alive at Monday’s Met Gala.

Yes, both Doja Cat and Leto dressed up as Choupette for the Met Gala. Doja Cat went the prosthetics route, with makeup and cat ears on her dress to complete the look. Leto, meanwhile, dressed up in a full fursuit modeled after Choupette.

Goodness knows how much both of those looks cost, but it certainly seems like a pretty penny. Fans on Twitter immediately could not stop comparing Doja Cat and Leto’s homages to Choupette at the 2023 Met Gala.
