New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani marked the opening of the city's 2026 outdoor pool season on Saturday by diving into a public pool in East Harlem while wearing a full suit and tie, reviving a long-standing City Hall tradition that had not taken place in more than a decade.
Mamdani jumped into the Thomas Jefferson Pool on East 114th Street alongside Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal and Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura. His ceremonial plunge also technically breached the pool's dress code, as noted by the New York Post.
