It is no secret that the current President of the United States is not particularly fond of the immigrant population in his country. Time and again, he has made it clear through his xenophobic comments and actions that he absolutely despises them, despite his own wife having immigrant roots and his administration containing multiple immigrant individuals.
Since becoming President for a second term this year, Donald Trump has been persistent in his efforts to wipe immigrant populations from the United States. With the help of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Trump has been conducting raids throughout the country to hunt down undocumented immigrants, or as he likes to call them, ‘illegal aliens.’ Some of these individuals have lived in the United States for decades and are now being displaced from their families due to Trump’s stringent immigrant policies.
If you open social media, you will find multiple testimonies of people who were questioned by ICE members or, worse, interrogated in violent ways by them. You will also come across videos of people being forcibly smacked to the ground and zip-tied by ICE, and then detained if they fail to prove their identity as American citizens. A similar incident is gaining traction on social media, where a young girl’s mother is being dealt with in a hostile manner because she could not remember her Social Security number when asked.
In the video, an ICE agent slams the girl’s mother to the floor as her daughter screams while crying. According to the daughter’s account, her mother has been detained at the Rockingham County Jail following the encounter.
Many who saw the harrowing scenes of the woman being manhandled by ICE rose to speak against them. One person on X (formerly Twitter) wrote:
“Why did he lung at a woman like that. And do that in front of a kid too. There is no justification for any of that. He could have left her outside of the car. And told the kid to provide information. None of that was proper procedure. Not like they were trained properly anyway. Every time we see these types of videos. It’s untrained thuggery going on.”
Others echoed similar sentiments. It’s shocking how Trump abuses his authority as President of the United States. What will it take for him to be impeached for a third time? From what I observe, he has certainly done enough to warrant consideration for that.
