Why Celtic's Rangers equaliser SHOULD have been disallowed after Odsonne Edouard handball

Celtic grabbed a dramatic equaliser against Rangers as Callum McGregor's shot deflected off Odsonne Edouard and spun into the net.

Allan McGregor was left rooted to the spot as the flight of the ball changed and Celtic Park erupted.

The Rangers players immediately appealed to referee, though in real time it wasn't clear what their complaint was.

However, replays showed that the ball had hit off Edouard's hand before going into the net.

The Celtic striker didn't mean to handle the ball but under new rules introduced by the International Football Association Board this season the goal should have been disallowed.

Introduced on June 1 of this year the new rule states that a handball offence has been committed if a player "scores in the opponents’ goal directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper".

Given that McGregor's shot hit Edouard's hand and went directly into the goal it should have been disallowed.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd was in the Sky Sports studio and was fuming with the decision.

He said: "Once again Rangers have been done by a referee's decision.

"Kevin Clancy's got it wrong, the exact same as Willie Collum in the cup final.

"We keep going on about big decisions and once again Rangers have found themselves on the end of a wrong decision and there's no way that goal should stand."
