‘Why are you shrinkflating it?’: Sam’s Club shopper buys 24-pack box of Smuckers Uncrustables. Then she compares them with old version

One woman is calling out Sam’s Club and Smucker’s for shrinkflation.

In a viral TikTok, Sam’s Club customer Sarah (@sarah..scully) tells the warehouse store to count its days after making a startling discovery about the New Mega Pack of peanut butter and grape jelly Uncrustables.

After calling out Sam’s Club, she asks, “Why are you shrinkflating my Uncrustables?” Sarah says she was excited about the new packaging for the Mega Pack, but her “Spidey-Senses” started tingling when she reached for a sandwich out of the box.

“Tell me why this one [is] 260 calories,” she says, referring to a sandwich from the new box, “but I found one in the back from my old box—320 [calories].”

Furthermore, she contends that the sandwiches used to be “fatter” and that the whole reason she buys them specifically from Sam’s Club is that Uncrustables from the store supposedly have more filling than the ones from other stores. Sarah says the New Mega Pack “sounds like [expletive] lies.”

‘Look at the package, 68gs vs 80gs!’

In the comments section, viewers agreed that the fan favorite sandwiches have gotten smaller—and corporate greed is to blame.

“I remember like 10 years ago they had the HUGE ones that were 500 calories,” one said.

A second pointed out that they’re even smaller at Sam’s Club’s parent company. “I’ll do ya one even better,” they wrote. “I just looked at my Walmart app at the 10 count and theyre EVEN SMALLER. 210 calories! Less protein listed too, so that means def less peanuts butter. Why am I so mad!!”

A third said, “There’s 2 versions of them. The 320 calorie ones are definitely more of a sandwich. The 280 ones are like a snack.”

Are there different sizes of Uncrustables?

According to a Redditor who responded to a user questioning the size difference between Uncrustables at Walmart and Sam’s Club, yes, the sandwiches come in four sizes: 2.0 oz, 2.6 oz, 2.8 oz, and 5.3 oz.

They claim, “Sams Club has the 2.8 oz while Walmart, Kroger, and other non-bulk grocery stores usually sell 2.0 oz. The 2.6 oz and 5.3 oz sizes are sold in bulk to schools, the military, and other suppliers.”

Additionally, in response to a since-deleted X post, Uncrustables noted, “The 2.8 oz. Uncrustables® sandwiches are the largest retail size we offer. Our normal Uncrustables weigh 2 oz. a piece.”

The 68g new sandwich that Sarah got is approximately 2.4 oz, so it seems the Redditor’s information may be outdated and Smucker’s has added a new size or shrunk the 2.6 oz or 2.8 oz varieties.

What is shrinkflation?

According to Investopedia, “Shrinkflation is the practice of reducing the size of a product while maintaining its sticker price. Raising the price per given amount is a strategy employed by companies, mainly in the food and beverage industries, to stealthily boost profit margins or maintain them in the face of rising input costs.”

The Mary Sue contacted Sarah via TikTok comment and direct message. It contacted  Uncrustables’ parent company, Smucker’s, via email and Sam’s Club’s parent company, Walmart, via media contact form.
