Who will start at QB for the Cowboys against the Steelers?

It appears as if the Dallas DiNuccis are going to be a one-hit wonder — miss-hit? — for now.

A report has the Cowboys turning to either Cooper Rush or Garrett Gilbert for their Week 9 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Cowboys started Ben DiNucci in their loss to the Eagles in Week 8. He started because Andy Dalton was out with a concussion and is out this week after being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Dalton had replaced Dak Prescott, who is out for the season with an ankle injury.

Rush has been with the team for three seasons and threw three passes in 2017.

Gilbert has thrown six passes in an NFL career that began in 2014. He did not appear again on a regular-season roster until 2018 with Carolina and then in 2019 with Cleveland.

Gilbert was signed by Dallas on Oct. 12 after Prescott was injured.

His resume:

  • St. Louis Rams (2014)*
  • New England Patriots (2014–2015)*
  • Detroit Lions (2015)*
  • Oakland Raiders (2015–2016)*
  • Carolina Panthers (2017–2018)
  • Orlando Apollos (2019)
  • Cleveland Browns (2019–2020)
  • Dallas Cowboys (2020–present)

Gilbert has something his father Gale doesn’t: a Super Bowl ring. Garrett Gilbert earned his despite not playing for the Patriots — he was on a futures contract — after New England knocked off the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.

Gale Gilbert is the answer to the trivia question of who was on five Super Bowl losing teams in a row. He played for the Bills on their four losing teams and the San Diego Chargers, too.
