Who's appearing on Who Do You Think You Are 2022? Line-up includes Line of Duty and Bake Off stars

Who Do You Think You Are is returning to our screens on Thursday night for its 19th series. The genealogy programme will have five brand new episodes and viewers will see a fresh bunch of familiar famous faces reveal their reasons for wanting to trace their ancestors.

The BAFTA award-winning series will see actors, TV hosts and comedians - including stars from The Great British Bake Off and Line of Duty - follow in the footsteps of the generations before them. With the help of historians and genealogists, they'll uncover the stories and secrets of their past, including tragedy and triumph from the lives of the members in their family tree.

But who will be taking part in the new series? and what can we expect from the upcoming episodes? Here are all the details:

Which celebrities will feature on Who Do You Think You Are 2022?

Five celebrities have taken part in this latest series of Who Do You Think You Are and they include Sue Perkins, Richard Osman, Matt Lucas, Anna Maxwell Martin and Ralf Little. The series starts on Thursday, May 26 from 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

In the first episode, comedian, writer and TV presenter Sue Perkins is set to discover the story of her orphaned grandfather before looking further back into her family tree to discover her great grandfather's history. She will learn he was interned as an "enemy alien" during the First World War.

Richard Osman on Brighton Beach (BBC/Wall To Wall Media Ltd/Stephen Perry)

Next up will be BBC One's Pointless presenter and now best-selling author Richard Osman, who is heading to Brighton to delve into his family roots. He will discover a fascinating story about his "amateur sleuth" four-times great grandfather who became entangled in one of Victorian Brighton’s most notorious murder trials.

The third episode of the series will focus on Channel 4's The Great British Bake Off host, comedian and actor, Matt Lucas. He will be looking into the history of his Jewish grandmother Margot - who come to the UK from Germany as a refugee in 1939.

Anna Maxwell Martin - Who Do You Think You Are (BBC/Wall To Wall Media Ltd/Stephen Perry)

Actress Anna Maxwell Martin, best known for starring in Motherland and Line of Duty, will be travelling to Northern Ireland to retrace her father's family tree. She'll come across a heart-breaking story and tales of family solidarity.

Actor and Death in Paradise star Ralf Little will be having a change of scene, when he swaps the sunny climates of the Caribbean for the Orkney Islands off the North of Scotland to delve into his grandfather's experience in WW2. He'll also finally find out if there is truth in the family rumour that one of his relations was a Welsh international footballer.

“Who Do You Think You Are? is back with another line-up of Britain’s best loved celebrities delving into their family trees, taking us from Brighton to Berlin, Manchester to Amsterdam, and Scotland to Lithuania," Executive Producer for Wall to Wall, Colette Flight said teasing the new series. She added: "In an extraordinary array of stories, they uncover a Victorian murder trial, personal tragedy, sporting triumph, and families fleeing for their lives and caught up in the tide of war. The stories are at once unique and universal – a reminder of our shared history and how it has shaped who we are today.”

Who Do You Think You are will air weekly on Thursday nights from 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The programme will not be broadcast on June 2 due to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee but will continue as normal from Thursday, June 9.
