Who plays Cain's brother Caleb in Emmerdale? Waterloo Road actor's past roles revealed

Emmerdale newcomer Caleb Miligan is set to ruffle feathers this Christmas as he makes his debut on the ITV soap.

The secret brother of Cain and Chas Dingle makes his arrival, after learning of his mother Faith Dingle's death in October - and the imprisonment of Cain, over the murder of Chas' lover Al Chapman.

Cain's son Kyle actually carried out the crime and he has taken the blame - something not everyone knows yet.

It's been revealed that Cain knows all about Caleb, having met him years ago in 1991 when they were teenagers - but he turned his brother away, and lied Faith had died.

Caleb is now back in his life and he wants answers over why he was denied the chance to get to know his family.

Viewers will see Caleb confront Cain in prison on Christmas Day, and soon his existence is revealed in upcoming scenes to the rest of the family.

But viewers will no doubt recognise the actor playing Caleb on the show, Will Ash, as he has been in some huge shows.

He's possibly most known for his roles as Nick in Clocking Off, and teacher Chris Mead in Waterloo Road - which is soon making a comeback.

Emmerdale newcomer Caleb, the brother of Cain and Chas Dingle, is played by actor Will Ash (Shed Productions)

Will has also starred in Doctor Who, Heartbeat, Casualty and Where the Heart Is.

Other soap roles include stints in Coronation Street - while he also appeared in Children's Ward, Soldier Soldier, Scott & Bailey, Inspector George Gently and Vera.

Father Brown, Moving On and Silent Witness roles are also listed in his credentials.

Actor Will recently discussed joining Emmerdale, telling The Mirror of why he joined the show: "There were three things. The first thing was probably how complex he is, how kind of layered he is because he comes in having this quite dark backstory having been put into care as a child.

"So when he was like 15, 14, he finds Cain and tries to reconnect with his family and he’s told by Cain that his mum is dead, so to steer clear of the family basically.

"So he spends the rest of his time growing up in care so he comes into it, when he finds out Faith wasn't dead, with a lot of bitterness, and a lot of anger so that complexity and having an axe to grind with Cain.

"Also, I knew coming in to it that I'd be working a lot with Jeff who I have known for a long time, so that was a massive draw. Not to put anything down but it's work isn't it. It's nice to be working. The main thing was working with Jeff and the character cos the scripts have been amazing."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
