Who is Titans OLB Derick Roberson?

The Tennessee Titans have made some solid moves this offseason between free agency and the 2019 NFL Draft.

The team has also signed several undrafted free agents — some of which have potential to make the 53-man roster.

One name of interest is former Sam Houston outside linebacker Derick Roberson.

Roberson was expected by many to be picked up by a team on the second day of the draft, but was instead signed by the Titans afterward.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper noted significant improvement in Roberson in his final collegiate season.

“The transfer from Texas is really fun to watch, and he has risen from an undraftable grade all the way up to consideration for Day 2,” Kiper wrote.

“After a five-sack 2017 season, Roberson already has 13.5 sacks and five forced fumbles this season, including five straight games with at least 1.5 sacks. He tore apart Incarnate Word on Saturday, with two sacks, a forced fumble, two pass breakups and six total tackles. Roberson is going to be an intriguing prospect when more scouts get a closer look at his 6-foot-4, 250-pound frame at all-star games in January. He has been no match for FCS offensive tackles.”

Roberson saw action in the 2014 Under Armour All-America Game out of high school and was ranked No. 57 overall and was also the No. 9 defensive end in the country, per Scout.

He redshirted at Texas in 2014 and played in 10 games in 2015 before transferring to SHSU in 2016. There, he played in eight games before starting 13 games in 2018.

Last season, the 6-foot-3, 219-pounder recorded 68 tackles, 15 sacks, five forced fumbles and two passes defensed. His 15 sacks led the FCS last season and tied a single-season school record.

On his college career, Roberson posted 123 tackles, 23 sacks, eight passes defensed, seven forced fumbles.

Now in Nashville, Roberson joins a group of outside linebackers which includes Sharif Finch, Harold Landry, Gimel President and D’Andre Walker.
