Scott Mills has been sacked by the BBC less than a week after being mysteriously pulled from his Radio 2 Breakfast Show.
The veteran broadcaster, 53, took over the flagship slot in January 2025, succeeding Zoe Ball, who stepped down to spend more time with her family.
He was removed from air last Tuesday while the BBC assessed the situation, and was told over the weekend that his contract had been terminated.
At the time of his appointment, Mills addressed scrutiny over his salary, saying he had “worked his whole life” to reach that point.
Confirming his exit on Monday, the BBC said in a statement: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC.”
But what do we know about him? Here’s everything to know.
Who is Scott Mills?
Mills has been a familiar voice on the airwaves for decades. Raised in Eastleigh, Hampshire, on England’s south coast, he began his radio career at just 16.
He attended Shakespeare Infant School and Crestwood College before moved to London.

Scott Mills started his career at the age of 16 on a local radio station near where he grew up, named Power FM.
He was then the youngest permanent presenter on mainstream commercial radio, and went on to host on other stations in Bristol, Manchester and at Heart FM in London, but he is best known for making his name on BBC Radio 1.
He presented The Scott Mills Show from 2004 to 2022 before leaving to join BBC Radio 2.
As well as his radio work, he has also appeared on our screens.
He has been a UK commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest, and also had brief stints in Casualty and Hollyoaks.
Mills has also appeared on shows including Mastermind, Supermarket Sweep and Never Mind the Buzzcocks and has also presented slots on the BBC annual fundraiser Children in Need.
He was announced as a contestant on series 12 of Strictly Come Dancing and was partnered with Joanne Clifton. The pair made it to week six before being eliminated.
He’s close to both his mother, Sandra, and father, Pete, who are separated and have both featured on his radio shows over the years.
His mother has multiple sclerosis, something Mills has spoken about publicly, previously describing her as his “best friend”.
Mills also has a brother, Wes.
Is Scott Mills married?
Mills publicly came out as gay in 2001, saying at the time he wanted to be seen as “a normal bloke who is gay and is on the radio and the television”.
In October 2021 he was engaged to Sam Vaughan, his boyfriend of four years, and the pair married in Spain in the summer of 2024.
Mills said they had “the most incredible day” celebrating alongside friends and family members, including DJs Zoe Ball, Rylan Clark and Jordan North as well as Calvin Harris and his wife Vick Hope.
The ceremony took place at Xalet Del Nin, a Mediterranean villa on the coast near Barcelona.
