Dragons' Den 2022: Who is new investor Steven Bartlett and how did he make his money?

Fans of the hit business show Dragons' Den will be treated to the programme's return tonight (January 6), but the line-up will feature a new firebreather in its midst.

At the age of 29, Steven Bartlett is the youngest-ever dragon to be featured on the potential investors' panel in the BBC programme.

In a tweet about the show, Steven said: "10 years ago at 18 years old I applied to pitch to the Dragons. 10 years later at 28 years old I have the honour of sitting amongst them. January 6th, BBC 1 at 8pm.

"A new fire, a new dragon. Will you be tuning in?"

Who is Steven Bartlett?

Steven Bartlett was born in Botswana to a Nigerian mother and a British father, but the family moved to the UK when he was young.

Even at an early age, he was business-minded. While he struggled academically, he reportedly brokered a deal on vending machines for his school when he was just 14 years old.

Though he was accepted to study Business Management at Manchester Met, he dropped out after just one lecture.

When he was 18, he would start his first official business – the marketing agency, Social Chain.

Though he does not give much away about his private life, Kent Live report that he is now believed to be in a new relationship after previously talking about splitting with a long-term partner.

How did Steven Bartlett make his money?

From its early days being run out of his bedroom, Social Chain grew into an incredibly successful company. It is now reportedly worth somewhere in the region of £600 million.

Though he left the company in 2020, it is believed that this is where he earned much of his reported personal net worth of £50 million.

In addition to his upcoming appearances in the den, Steven's website tells us his most recent work is as "a speaker, investor, author, content creator and the host of one of Europe's biggest podcasts, 'The Diary of a CEO'. In 2021 Steven released his debut book 'Happy Sexy Millionaire' which was a Sunday Times best seller."
