Who is Meena's barrister in Emmerdale? Amy Robbins' acting career and famous siblings

Emmerdale's latest serial killer Meena is back on our screens this week as her trial looms ever closer, an event that is already causing uproar and turmoil in the village. During a recent episode, viewers were given an insight into Meena's life in prison as the evil character played by Paige Sandu prepared for her upcoming court case set to air on ITV from April 11.

But there has been one new cast member who has got viewers talking - Meena's new barrister aka actress Amy Robbins. Robbins is perhaps best known for her role as Dr Jill Weatherill in the much loved ITV period drama The Royal between 2003 and 2011.

Whilst some viewers couldn't quite put their finger on where they recognised her from, other viewers were convinced it was singer and actress Kate Robbins - mum to comedian and actress Emily Atack. But Kate quickly put the rumours to bed and confirmed that it was in fact her sister, 51-year-old actress Amy - but the pair do look remarkably similar.

"Nope. That’s my sis Amy," Kate tweeted to one fan, adding: "When the Robbins sisters are in same room as the McGann brothers people just think there’s two people". She replied to another: "That’s my sister Amy".

It seems the Robbins family are full of talent as Amy's sister, Kate, has had a career spanning more than four decades, first shooting to fame in the 1980s. She has been a star of Spitting Image and more recently featured in EastEnders and Netflix's hit show After Life.

Their brother Ted Robbins is a comic, actor and TV presenter who many may know from stints in Coronation Street, Benidorm and Doctors. Not forgetting Emily Atack, Amy's niece, who found fame on The Inbetweeners and also took part in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2018.

Amy has starred in shows such Heartbeat, EastEnders, Casualty and Hollyoaks and made her first very brief appearance as Meena's barrister in the plea hearing back in March. Emmerdale viewers were delighted to see the star make another appearance and she's sure to feature a lot more next week when the long-awaited trial finally gets underway.

"Great to see Amy Robbins in #emmerdale tonight. Loved Amy as Dr Weatherill along with @RobertDaws in "The Royal"." Joyce Jordan tweeted and another viewer Darren Haywood added: "Great to see Amy Robbins in @emmerdale tonight. I actually thought it was @KateRobbins at first! #Emmerdale"

It's not just the fans pleased to see Amy Robbins in the Yorkshire Dale soap as fellow co-star Michelle Hardwick who plays Vanessa Woodfield and also used to star in The Royal as hospital receptionist Lizzie Hopkirk was "loving" seeing her former co-star on the show. She added that it had been 20 years since they first started working together on the former medical drama.

Emmerdale continues on weekdays from 7.30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
