On Tuesday 1 July 2025, American far-right activist Laura Loomer ignited outrage after posting a controversial and cryptic message on X, suggesting that the US government should feed 65 million immigrants to alligators. Her inflammatory comment has once again thrust her into the spotlight, prompting many to ask: who exactly is Laura Loomer?
A History of Provocation
Laura Loomer (full name Laura Elizabeth Loomer) is a well-known far-right political activist, internet personality and conspiracy theorist. Over the years, she has been involved with several extremist and right-wing organisations, including the Geller Report, Rebel News, InfoWars and Project Veritas.
She also ran for Congress in 2022 but was defeated by then-Florida Republican representative Dan Webster.
Loomer is notorious for her controversial and often offensive remarks about Muslims, proudly describing herself as a pro-white nationalist and Islamophobe. She now runs her own news website called LOOMERED, and on X, she labels herself an investigative journalist with a 'free spirit'.
Support for Trump and Alligator Alcatraz
A vocal supporter of Donald Trump, Loomer has repeatedly aligned herself with the former president. She even attended an Oval Office meeting in April 2025 to urge Trump to fire certain national security council officials she claimed were not loyal enough.
One of her most criticised stances is her support for 'Alligator Alcatraz', a detention facility in the Florida Everglades that holds around 5,000 undocumented immigrants. The site earned its nickname because it is surrounded by pythons, alligators and other dangerous wildlife.
Trump recently visited Alligator Alcatraz, joking that asylum seekers could be taught how to escape from alligators.
'I guess that's the concept. Snakes go fast but alligators — we're going to teach them how to run away from an alligator, okay, if they escape prison,' Trump said.
He added: 'How to run away: Don't run in a straight line, run like this.'

The good news is, alligators are guaranteed at least 65 million meals if we get started now.
After Trump's visit, Loomer doubled down with her own shocking remarks.
'Alligator lives matter,' she wrote on X. The MAGA influencer continued: 'The good news is, alligators are guaranteed at least 65 million meals if we get started now.'
Although she did not explicitly use the word 'immigrants', many online users immediately understood her meaning. Some pointed out that there are over 65 million Latino and Hispanic immigrants and residents in the US.
'How do you find so much pleasure in the idea of feeding PEOPLE to alligators just because they aren't citizens?' asked X user Michael Scott. 'And you have the nerve to complain about antisemitism?'
While many Americans condemned Loomer's comments as 'sick' and dehumanising, others directed their anger at Elon Musk for allowing such content to remain on the platform, arguing that her post violated X's terms of service.
A Pattern of Controversy
Laura Loomer's latest post is just the newest addition to her long record of incendiary statements. Despite facing repeated bans on social media platforms and frequent criticism, she continues to attract attention with her extreme views and public provocations.
