Who is Italy's Eurovision 2022 act Mahmood and Blanco?

The Eurovision final is tonight (May 14, 2022) and there are 25 countries that have made it to this stage. Italy is one of them.

The Eurovision contestant this year is held in Turin, Italy. The final will be hosted live from the Pala Olimpico in Turin, one year after Italy's 2021 victory with rock band Måneskin.

According to Eurovisionworld, Italy is in the top five favorites to win, at 5%. The competition this year is TV presenter Alessandro Cattelan and singers Laura Pausini and Mika.

But who are Mahmood and Blanco? Here we break down the Italy Eurovision representative of the 2022 competition.

Who is the Italy entry for Eurovision 2022?

Mahmood and Blanco are the Italy entrants for the Eurovision 2022 competition. Mahmood performed at Eurovision in 2019, which landed him in second place in the competition.

However, this year, Mahmood is returning with a friend to enter the competition as a duo, therefore making Mahmood and Blanco. Blanco partners with a fellow rapper/ singer to Mahmood to form their group.

The duo are amongst the top five favorites to win the 2022 competition with their song Brividi. The track itself is co-written with songwriter and producer Michelangelo, who is a frequent collaborator of Blanco.

Speaking to The Independent on the inspiration behind the song, Mahmood said ‘I thought a lot about sex [for the song] – I think it’s very important. It can be a solution, yes, but other times it can solve nothing.’

‘And in this case, we’re talking about something deeper: the willingness to express yourself, but also fearing to reveal your emotions – so sex can be a trap.’

The Eurovision grand final will be aired live from 8pm on BBC One and hosted in the UK by Irish actor and presenter Graham Norton.
