Who does Ben Stokes support? England cricketer declares football allegiance

England cricket hero Ben Stokes has pledged his football allegiance to Tottenham Hotspur - after receiving a shirt sent by the club.

Durham player Stokes was the mainstay in England's remarkable run chase in the third Ashes test against Australia, scoring 135 not out in order to draw the scores level at 1-1 and keeping England's hopes alive.

Ahead of Sunday's North London Derby, which finished 2-2, the all-rounder took to social media to announce his support for Mauricio Pochettino's men.

"Never supported a club, always wanted to but never loved football enough really," he wrote.

"My first ever football top was actually a Tottenham one, it was the blue and yellow kit with Thomson on the front. But after getting sent this I guess I'm now officially a Spurs fan."

The tweet included a picture of a personalised shirt sent to the cricketer by Spurs.

From one England player to another, Harry Kane responded to the announcement showing his approval at the choice.

"Good choice!" The Three Lions captain tweeted. "Good luck for the rest of the Ashes and you'd be more than welcome to a game once the series is finished."

Judging by his follow up tweet, Stokes is enjoying his short time as a Spurs fan, tweeting: "Being a Tottenham fan is hard work, well for all 4 hours of it so far, had some extremely hilarious tweets though I'm not gonna lie."
