Who can vote in a General Election and what constituency are you in?

Brits are heading to the polling stations today to vote in the General Election.

It's the third time since 2015, but a first in December since the General Election in 1923.

Boris Johnson's proposal for a December 12, 2019 General Election was finally supported after three failed attempts, where he received an overwhelming majority backing of 438 votes to 20.

You will vote to elect an MP to represent your constituency (PA)

But who can actually vote?

You must be over 18 on the day of the election and must be a British, Northern Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen.

You will need to be a resident at an address in the UK, or a British citizen living abroad who has been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years.

In order to vote, you can't be legally excluded and most importantly, you must be registered.

Which constituency are you in?

There are 650 constituencies in the UK, each with their own elected Member of Parliament (MP).

There are 533 constituencies in England, 59 in Scotland, 40 in Wales and 18 in Northern Ireland.

In Greater Manchester, there are 27 constituencies.

You can check which one you will vote within by heading to UK Parliament website, where you can use their online tool here.
