Whitney Leavitt has responded to the backlash she’s been facing online regarding her portrayal in season three of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and her comments make it clear she’s aware of both the speculation and the shifting narratives swirling around her every move.
The current season hasn’t exactly painted her in soft-focus: from accusations of being “fame-hungry” to tense walkouts by castmates, Leavitt’s return to the show has been dramatic, divisive, and unusually candid.

Why is Whitney Leavitt copping backlash?
Let’s rewind. At the start of the season, Leavitt was MIA from MomTok and not filming, reportedly due to contract disputes. When she did pop back up, it wasn’t for group bonding or warm reunions. Instead, her return to Miranda McWhorter’s birthday party resulted in cast members Mayci Neeley, Mikayla Matthews, and Jessi Ngatikaura literally leaving the room rather than engage with her.
Leavitt wasted no time clarifying her priorities. At a group meeting, she declared, “So, then, this is strictly business,” and added, “I’m not coming back to the sisterhood. I’m gonna start my own MomTok,” with Taylor Frankie Paul laughing in disbelief nearby. For some viewers, this sounded downright ruthless.
Her motivation? The chance to audition for Dancing with the Stars. Leavitt admitted, “I just found out that if I came back to film, I can audition for Dancing with the Stars,” highlighting her dance background and why this opportunity meant so much to her.
We now know that she did in fact land a prime spot on DWTS, paired up with Mark Ballas, making her a frontrunner but also stirring up even more controversy — especially after castmate Jen Affleck revealed she was not voting for Leavitt after getting booted from the show.
Whitney Leavitt’s response to the SLOMW backlash
Amid mounting criticism and a number of people dissecting her every reaction — yes, even the way she supposedly smiled after Jen’s elimination — Leavitt spoke out via TikTok.
Addressing both the support and the hate, she wrote:
“I share the good, the bad, and the ugly, and with that comes even more opinions than I ever imagined. It’s been a strange experience watching so many different versions of me get created and shared in the media. So many perspectives and assumptions about who I am.”
She added, “It comes with highs and lows, but I do this because I genuinely love what I do! Being a part of DWTS has made me believe in dreams I once thought were unobtainable. I love sharing my journey in hopes to maybe even help someone along the way … The love and support I do see, hear, and even receive in person truly means the world to me. Let’s get WHARK IT to the finale! We’ve got something special to share with you all!”
Suprisingly, a few of her Mormon Wives cast mates could be seen supporting Whitney in her comments.

Where does this leave SLOMW and MomTok?
Leavitt’s unapologetic pursuit of career opportunities, paired with public fallout from fellow cast members, has made her the most talked-about — and arguably the most polarising — figure this season.
For now, Whitney Leavitt seems unfazed by the wave of criticism, holding firm to her statement that she’s sharing her journey for those who might benefit — and perhaps, for herself most of all.
