Whitley Bay chippy selling battered sprouts, deep-fried pigs in blankets and stuffing fritters for Christmas

An award-winning coastal chippy has launched a festive menu in the run-up to Christmas Day which includes deep-fried versions of all the staples featured in the big day meal.

Pantrini’s in Whitley Bay is expanding its usual fish and chips menu to include new treats to appeal to Christmas dinner lovers and these include pigs in blankets, stuffing balls and even sprouts.

The business, in Marine Avenue, has been run by the Pantrini family for more than 100 years and it is fourth generation owners Lee and Sarah Taylor who have come up with the new festive menu to celebrate its centenary.

All the items on it will be deep fried using the family's secret batter recipe and as well as the likes of traditional pigs in blankets, battered stuffing balls and battered Brussels sprouts, customers can have a choice of Christmas gravy or cranberry sauce for dipping.

Lee said: “Love them or hate them, Brussels sprouts are a Christmas staple - yet, dip them in Pantrini’s traditional recipe batter and serve with cranberry sauce and we are yet to find a customer who doesn’t love them."

Other choices one the menu include a Christmas Sandwich, with home-made Christmas stuffing, panko turkey breast and cranberry sauce, which is served in a soft stottie with gravy.

There are desserts too, such as Christmas tree brownies; gingerbread pancakes with an orange Chantilly cream; mini gingerbread men and Santa hat brownies.

These saw more family members join the taste tests, with fifth generation's Rosie and Alexander apparently giving their seal of approval to the sweet treat.

The new festive menu will be served at Pantrini’s until New Year’s Day.
