Whitehall incident LIVE: No10 plunged into lockdown as Met Police probe suspicious vehicle near Downing Street

No10 was plunged into lockdown as police investigated reports of a “suspicious vehicle”.

Police cordoned-off Whitehall outside of Downing Street on Wednesday afternoon just before 3pm, starting at the entrance to Westminster Underground Station.

Downing Street staff were reportedly huddled in secure rooms at No10 as police investigated.

The cordon was put in place at the southern end of Whitehall as a “precautionary measure”, Met Police said, as officers investigated.

The vehicle was not linked to a separate road traffic collision involving a coach and a pedestrian which happened in the nearby Abingdon Street, police said.

The incident invloving the suspicious vehicle was resolved, police said, in a later update and the cordon lifted.
