White Sox center fielder Luis Robert was second in American League Rookie of the Year honors, finishing as the runnerup to Mariners center fielder Kyle Lewis, a unanimous choice for the award by Baseball Writers Association of American.
Right-hander Cristian Javier of the Astros was third.
With 30 first-place votes, Lewis finished with 150 points. Robert had 27 second-place votes and 83 points. Javier collected 11 points.
Robert finished with a slash line of .233/.302/.436 to go with 11 homers, 31 RBIs and nine stolen bases. He topped all rookies in RBIs. He and Lewis led AL rookies in home runs.
Brewers right-handed reliever Devin Williams was named NL Rookie of the Year.
Last week, Robert became the first rookie to win a Gold Glove since Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado in 2013. While the 23-year-old Cuban’s defense was consistent throughout the abbreviated 60-game season, Robert’s offense was a tale of two halves. His name surfaced in some MVP conversations while he was batting .298/.356/.660 with nine home runs in August, earning AL Player of the Month honors. But in September, he slumped miserably, posting a .136/.237/.173 hitting line with one homer.
He finished the regular season by going 5-for-11 with three runs scored and an RBI in his last three games.
