Ghost of Yotei is a stunning open-world PS5 title, and that world is explored best on horseback.
In Atsu's quest for revenge, as you jump backwards and forwards in time within the renegade's memories, you're sometimes given a choice or extra optional objectives. The Old Trails quest is one of these objectives, and it involves your mount.
If you're here, you've likely just reached the stables in the early part of the game and defeated a bunch of Lord Saito's goons, and now you're being given a choice of horses. Here's everything to know about which horse to pick and why.
Which horse to pick in Ghost of Yotei

Choosing your horse in Ghost of Yotei is purely a cosmetic decision, and there are no differences between each one, but keep in mind that this will be your mount for the remainder of the game. Here are the horse choices:
- Dapple Horse
- Black Horse
- White Horse
- Brown Horse (Digital Deluxe Edition-exclusive)
Pick whichever horse you like best for their appearance. Once chosen, you can then also name your horse, and this is again purely up to you and your tastes. The choices have no effect on gameplay at all. These are the name choices:
- Shimaki (Tornado)
- Homura (Flame)
- Mochizuki (Full Moon)
Upon picking your horse, you will complete the Old Trails quest and then unlock the PS5 trophy "Naming a Friend." From here, your adventure around Ezo can continue.
