Where Ryan Kent's Rangers transfer fee ranks in club's record signings

Ryan Kent completed his transfer to Rangers after long, drawn out process.

In the end it happened very quickly once a deal had been agreed. But the saga was stretched over the summer and to many it seemes as if Steven Gerrard wouldn't get his man.

Even on Monday morning, Kent was at Manchester Airport ready to board a flight to Belgium to sign for Club Brugge.

Then, suddenly, Rangers made a £7million bid and the 22-year-old was quickly on his way to Glasgow to thrash out personal terms and sign a contract.

Although the deal is structured in instalments – that’s the way in football nowadays – it represents a huge deal in Scottish football terms.

So where does Kent's signing rank in Rangers' most expensive transfers in history?

Top five record signings for Rangers

5) Andrei Kanchelskis (£5.5m from Fiorentina)

(Daily Record)

The Russian is best remembered in Scottish football for standing on the ball and saluting during a Scottish Cup semi-final against Ayr United.

He moved from Fiorentina for a fair whack at a time when Rangers were spending a lot of money. He never really hit his Manchester United heights but he did score 13 goals in 76 games at Ibrox.

4) Mikel Arteta (£5.8m from Barcelona)

The classy Spaniard midfielder joined Rangers for £5.8m in 2002 and was instantly a success as he played a big part in winning the Treble that season. It wasn't all great though as home sickness resulted in him moving back to Spain with Real Sociedad for less than £5m before he ended up having a successful career in England with Everton and Arsenal.

He's currently assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

3) Michael Ball (£6.5m from Everton)

The left back had a weird career at Rangers after joining from Everton in 2001. His pedigree meant he should have been first choice left back for years to come but he was in and out of the team and was eventually dropped completely when Rangers hit money issues.

Playing more games meant the Ibrox side would have owed a greater fee to Everton and he was completely frozen out before going on to play for PSV, Manchester City and Leicester.

2) Ryan Kent (£7m from Liverpool)

He's the player Rangers fans have wanted all summer and Gerrard has finally got his man. He might be kicking himself a wee bit that the deal wasn't agreed before Sunday's defeat to Celtic at Ibrox when Rangers struggled to impose themselves.

But this is a huge signing for the rest of the season and Kent could prove the difference between silverware and zero.

1) Tore Andre Flo (£12m from Chelsea)

Tore Andre Flo’s move to Rangers is deemed a failure and given the money involved it’s probably fair.

But the big striker did score 29 goals in 53 league games and netted on his debut against Celtic in a 5-1 win.

In the end he was sold to Sunderland for £8.2m after two years and never really rediscovered the form that earned him the big-money move from Chelsea.
