Where Michigan State sits in Big Ten Tournament bracket entering season finale

Michigan State has only two more guaranteed games left on their schedule — the season finale against Michigan on Sunday and a Big Ten Tournament match-up that’s to be determined. What occurs on Sunday against Michigan will help determine who the Spartans will play in Indianapolis at the Big Ten Tournament.

With the loss to the Wolverines on Thursday night, the Spartans currently find themselves as the No. 9 seed and are a lock to avoid playing on Wednesday. Below is the most up-to-date Big Ten Tournament bracket as we enter the final weekend of the regular season.

With the tiebreakers in place and the games remaining, it appears Michigan State is a near-lock for the No. 8 vs. No. 9 seed match-up. Michigan State is unable to leapfrog Rutgers and Maryland for the No. 7 seed and would only fall to the No. 10 seed with an Indiana victory at Purdue on Saturday plus a loss to Michigan in the season finale on Sunday.

With how things are going lately for the Hoosiers, winning at Mackey Arena doesn’t seem likely so that should mean the Spartans will open the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. ET. That game most likely will be against Rutgers or Maryland.
