Where creative ideas can be both heard and seen

Creativity, it is said, is meant to be shared. What better way to unleash this power of creativity than by attending PechaKucha Night Bangkok, a global platform for creative minds, now in its 23rd edition, on July 17 at Open House, Level 6, Central Embassy, from 7.30pm onward with a presentation starting at 8.20pm.

The general public is welcome to enjoy the event free of charge.

PechaKucha, Japanese for "chit-chat", represents a unique presentation platform or "stage of ideas". This format was first devised by PechaKucha founders Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham architecture (KDa), who in 2017 designed Open House at Central Embassy in the first PechaKucha Night in Tokyo in February 2003. It is an open space for creative minds, whoever they are, amateurs or professionals, adults or kids, to unleash their creativity in public and express themselves at PechaKucha Night while also networking with others, in order for them to become thought leaders.

PechaKucha 20 x 20, a global event, is a presentation where a speaker uses 20 images and 20 seconds per image to communicate an idea, totalling approximately six minutes per presentation.

PechaKucha has a global network of over 1,000 cities with a combined audience of more than 300,000.

The night event serves as a platform for individuals who desire to share their passion about specific topics that they would like to present to both a local and global audience by using the format, shared by KDa.

In Bangkok, the PechaKucha format was first tested in 2008 and organised loosely over the years by enthusiastic volunteers. Last year, Klein and Dytham designed the event venue, Open House, an award-winning Design for Asia Grand Award co-living space that has made its name around the world. It is an ideal space to renew the excitement of PechaKucha Night in Bangkok with the space that Klein and Dytham created.

Shane Suvikapakornkul, who runs Serindia Gallery and Hardcover: The Art Book Shop, has also been picked to become the new PechaKucha Night Bangkok City organiser.

Shane has ample experience in organising art and book exhibitions and talks, and has consistently been involved in the art and culture scene of Bangkok for the last decade. Shane has been working with Open House from its inception and PechaKucha Night is an ideal platform to adopt for such an open and creative space like Open House.
