When train and bus services will go back to normal after strikes

Passengers planning on using public transport in Merseyside today will have been hit by disruption due to two sets of strikes.

Both Arriva and National rail strike action is taking place on Wednesday, July 27, meaning there will be none of the major operator's services available anywhere across the region. Workers for Arriva have been on strike since Wednesday, July 20, after talks between Arriva and the Unite and GMB unions failed to reach an agreement over pay.

The bus company has confirmed that while workers strike, no services will be able to run across the region. The action means there are also no services in Greater Manchester, Lancashire or Cheshire, except for local Macclesfield services which will all run with the exception of service 38.

A date has not yet been set for when the Arriva strike action will end. Rail workers up and down the country are taking part in another 24 hour strike today, on Wednesday, July 27. The action is part of an ongoing pay dispute led by the RMT union.

For the duration of the strike, only two trains per hour will depart from the station - that's compared to around 10 departures an hour on a non strike day. Nationally only 20% of trains will be running on around 50% of the railway network.

Liverpool Lime Street's last trains will leave between 3pm and 5pm with final arrivals by 6.30pm. Passengers should also expect disruption on the morning of Thursday 28 July with a later start to services as employees return to duties.

On Thursday, July 28, trains will be reintroduced from 7am, when the 24-hour strike ends. There are no rail replacement bus services for the early morning disruption due to lack of availability. A normal, full train service will resume from 7.30am across the Merseyrail network.
