When the January transfer window opens and closes for Manchester United and Man City

Manchester United and Manchester City will be handed the opportunity to strengthen their squads when the January transfer window opens in a matter of days.

United will welcome Amad Diallo to the club after agreeing a deal to sign the 18-year-old on deadline day in October.

Last season, Bruno Fernandes ' deal was the headline transfer activity from Manchester, although rumours about a deal for Jadon Sancho have gone quiet since the summer.

For City, there are few names being linked with any strength, with the bulk of their business performed in the summer.

Still, should the right opportunity present itself, both clubs could make a move for their first additions of 2021.

Here's all the information you need on the start and end of the January window.

When does the January window open?

The winter transfer window will run pretty much as normal. It will open on January 4, 2021.

When does the January window close?

The window will close on February 1, 2021.

This will enable clubs to complete countless deals, with the closure of the window pushed back a little due to the fact that January 31 is a Sunday.

Loan deals also tend to punctuate the January window, with out-of-favour players often seeking first-team minutes elsewhere. This season, those decisions may be impacted by a congested calendar, however.

Is there an extended window for loan and EFL clubs?

No. Unlike in October, there is no extra time allocated for trading between the Premier League and the EFL.
